Why can I not read my Hotmail / Yahoo Mail / Google Mail etc. in college?
Web-based systems like Hotmail are notorious for large amounts of spam and viruses. The college has sophisticated scanning and security systems to prevent the entry of spam and viruses onto the College network. Allowing direct access to Web-based mail systems like Hotmail would effectively bypass some of those systems, putting the College at unacceptable risk. The Code of Conduct for the use of computers states that “Computer access is provided for College-related purposes only”. As we provide an email account for each student in addition to access to the Internet, there is no circumstance where an external email account is required for College work. The College email accounts are, however, able to collect mail from external accounts if required. This can be set up by the learners themselves.
