Why can I not put food waste, fruit & vegetable peelings, and tea bags in my bin(s)?

The Animal By-Products Regulations, introduced to prevent the spread of diseases like Foot and Mouth, limits the materials that can be composted en-masse in the open air. The facility we use is not licensed to take these materials. We acknowledge that vegetable peelings will compost beautifully and do not contain any animal products but we cannot accept them due to regulations. Our Garden Waste Collection is just that – a garden waste collection. We suggest you compost these materials in a Home Compost bin, which are available at subsided prices from Surrey County Council by calling 0845 076 0223 or visiting www.recyclenow.com/compost.
