Why can I not log into Serv-U using Netscape or Internet Explorer?
There can be several reasons why things go wrong using WWW browsers to access Serv-U. One is that the browser is not sending a real E-mail address while Serv-U is expecting one (Although the default in Serv-U is to accept any response as the anonymous ‘password’). Another reason can be that the browser demand access to directories to which it does not have any. To start with the anonymous ‘passwords’: By default Netscape and I-Explorer do not send a valid E-mail address as the anonymous ‘password’. Depending on the version of Netscape and I-Explorer, you can specify an E-mail address in their setup, which will then be used (Netscape versions 2.x won’t send it, even if you specify it in the setup). In Serv-U you can control whether the server checks for a complete E-mail address or not, by checking or unchecking the ‘Check anon. passwords’ option in the ‘Setup – FTP Server’ menu. For maximum compatibility with the various Web browsers out there it is a good idea to leave ‘Check anon. pa
