Why can Fife Council not collect more recyclable materials from the household?

0

At present, Fife Council is focussing on issuing every household in Fife with a blue and brown bin to collect recyclates. As these materials rot down in landfill sites and produce gases that cause global warming, it is important that we remove these items from the general waste stream. Providing a mixed recyclate collection was trialled in Dunfermline in April 2005 however this scheme proved unsuccesful as it produced a high contamination rate along with a less impressive recycling rate. Fife Council is concentrating on Recycling Points to remove other recyclable materials from the waste stream and we are issuing more of these points all the time. Our final aim is to have one Recycling Point for every 500 households and this should place a point within walking distance of each household.
