Why call this organization the “Trans-National Government for Eelam Tamils” instead of, say, International Organization of Eelam Tamils or some other suitable name without the word “government” in it?
I do understand the psychological reasons for naming the organization a “government”. For the past several years, Tamils in general, Eelam Tamils in particular, have been expecting the liberation of Tamil Eelam by the military might of LTTE; in fact, LTTE came close to achieving that goal in 2000 when it won battle after battle and liberated vast territories from the retreating Sri Lankan army. But that hope of the liberation of Tamil Eelam soon was shattered with the almost total decimation of LTTE military might in May 2009. It was within a month of that Tamil defeat did the proposal for the “Transnational Government for Eelam Tamils” came. This was a psychological wish fulfillment. The dream of establishing a Tamil government in the homeland was shattered and some Tamil leaders reacted by proposing a make-belief government with no nation to govern (thus the name “trans-national government”). This is like a young woman madly in love with a young man, but forbidden to marry him by her
