Why build a Homeland Security Education Center?
The Homeland Security Education Center will launch College of DuPage into the national forefront of one of the fastest-growing workforce development sectors. It will be the only facility of its kind in the Midwest, offering state-of-the-art facilities and training to emergency responders from a host of disciplines. COD already offers thriving credit programs in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, EMT and Paramedic. In addition, the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy – one of only two such training operations in northern Illinois outside of Chicago– offers basic training and continuing education throughout the year. Enrollment in all of these programs equals or surpasses the total enrollment for some small colleges. By placing these different but strongly related disciplines under the same roof, we create much-needed joint training and inter-agency operability opportunities.
