Why build a deep bored tunnel?
The deep bored tunnel has important advantages over all the alternatives. It will allow through-traffic to travel under downtown without clogging city streets or further crowding I-5. It can be built while the Alaskan Way Viaduct continues to function, so that people will have a way to move once the Viaduct is torn down. A deep bored tunnel will avoid the years of gridlock that would result from other alternatives studied.
