Why becoming psychologist or psychiatrist is not chosen as first choice profession ?

“Customer-satisfaction” looks too uncertain, despite good knowledge, learning etc, unlike other branches of medicine, where performance does not depend much on patient’s attitude, likes or dislikes. The surgery is done by giving anesthesia to the patient, and even before the patient know, the relatives of the patient know through the doctor, “operation success”! Not so, for this branch, psychiatry…. The patient is quit shy even to tell others that he had been to a psychiatrist. And normal people tend to look at a psychiatrist as some kind of hypnotist, or mesmerist etc, and quietly shy away, in social circles. In big metro-cities, however, psychiatrists have good practice, but mostly through some hospitals, in the form of a post-care, adding to the already-bulging hospital bills! All this is in India. In Western countries like US, every fourth doctor is a psychiatrist, with equal share of patients!
