Self-worth: Read Alliance teen tutors develop self-confidence, accountability and pride as they learn that their commitment as a teen tutor can help shape the future of their young reader. Training: Read Alliance tutors are trained to teach children using a research-based reading curriculum. In addition, tutors learn effective behavior management techniques, data collection, and the importance of consistent attendance, punctuality and appropriate workplace communications. Community Service: Read Alliance tutors earn community service hours while building their college application portfolios. “Teens who volunteer increase their knowledge of the world and the problems that face it. Volunteering affords teens both an opportunity to shape their communities and to receive lifelong personal benefits.” Paid jobs: Teens who complete the tutor training, complete all employment paperwork, and volunteer for three tutoring sessions may be eligible for paid tutoring jobs.
