Why arnt there many dark skinned black models?
Black models and models of other ethnic backgrounds are rarely used in mainstream advertisements or fashion shows, if they are it is usually just one or two and often none. Of course black models are used regularly by “urban” designers for advertisements and fashion shows. (However, the last time I checked ethnic women do not limit their wardrobes to just Baby Phat and Apple Bottoms.) The reason there is a lack of black models is because the majority of United States is white. Blacks make up approximately 12% of the population. The designers want to appeal to the masses. Unfortunately most people tend to find images like themselves most appealing. When America sees the white models they see themselves and find it appealing. Since most of America is white you see mostly white models, it is marketing. The truth is a lot of white Americans don’t think blacks and people of other ethnicities can be beautiful. I still find it odd that Americans still think that white skin, blonde hair, and b
