Why aren there many left handed people?
That’s an interesting question. It’s thought that being left may be a specific gene which is passed down through families. However, I don’t really know the specifics on that, like whether it’s a single gene mutation, or a recessive trait, or something like that. That also doesn’t explain why my grandfather is left handed, but no one else in my family is. Also, up until recently, people who were left handed were taught to write and use their right hands, and sometimes punished for using their left hand. My grandfather, again, is a lefty, but he writes with his right hand because his teachers at school would slap his hand with a ruler if he tried to use his left hand to write. Same thing happened to my friend, and she’s only 26. So in some areas it’s pretty recent that left handed people were allowed to be left handed. However, it’s true that most people are born right handed. I guess it’s genetic, but I don’t really know for sure.
