Why arent there any “UK team” in sports, but 4 teams instead (Scotland, england…)?
To add to the earlier points, it is my understanding that to have a UK team (apart from in the Olympics) there would need to be a UK FA and UK league. Being English, I would be quite happy to have a UK team as 90% of the players would be English anyway, and the players from Scotland and Wales would only make the team stronger – imagine England’s 2002 World Cup side but with Giggs on the left!! However, the other home nations feel that a UK Team would mean a loss of national identity and pride. For example, I can’t imagine many Scots getting behind a UK team made up of 8 or 9 Englishmen.
