The primary benefit of polarization is the elimination of visible glare. For a polarized side lens to function properly, the eyes must look directly through it at a 90° axis (similar to the way you look through the front lens of a sunglass). Unless your eyes are positioned on the side of your head, much like a pigeon or a gold fish, the side lens only delivers a peripheral line of sight versus a direct line of sight.
