Why aren the Pearls affilated with Omega Psi Phi anymore?
In 1990 all National Pan-Hellenic Fraternities and Sororities voted to disband their affilations with their auxiliary organizations. The only exception to this is Iota Phi Theta, their sweethearts are recognized by their nationals but under a very strict directive. However just because we are not recognized by nationals doesn’t mean that we don’t exist and we are not illegal as many people seem to think. We are our own seperate entity!! All business matters, administrative and financial are handled by the pearls and not by any member of Omega Psi Phi. In addition, auxiliary groups posed a threat to the single-sex status of Greek organizations which, under the U.S. Civil Rights Act, are allowed to discriminate against members of the opposite sex. But that status may be whittled away in the courts if Greeks maintain organizations of the opposite sex that perform many of the activities of a full member, such as paying dues and helping with rush, while not enjoying full membership. This fe
