Why aren residents asking tough questions?
Press about the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, for a decade has presented the same excuses from the same people (“Escondido arts center fights for financial stability,” Aug. 19). The person in charge of the finances for 13 seasons still blames ticket sales as the problem. Yet, why do they continue to base projections for future seasons on the very failing that has plagued them from the start? … Three years ago, they shut down the museum and education department basically to save money, as the laid-off employees were informed. To date, those departments have been restocked with employees ññ are they now making money? To enhance this lunacy, the person booking the shows for the last season and the upcoming season is “extremely proud” of the lineup, even knowing that the seats for many of his lineup have been unfilled and he “doesn’t foresee any major changes.” … There was a marketing director in place from November until the present, but he didn’t have a “team” so couldn’t se
