Why aren really good-looking people funny?
Because they don’t have a need to be funny. When you’re that good-looking, you’re well-liked. You date. You don’t have to develop the other side of your personality. Go down the comedy list and you’ll find very few classically beautiful people. Look at the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello and Redd Foxx. Carol Burnett is a comic genius, but she has a horse head. If you’re a good-looking woman, the odds are against you becoming a comic. What about Sarah Silverman? She’s an exception. She’s very funny and attractive. There’s obviously some deep psychological damage there since she’s a really good comic. She must have plenty of groupies. You seem comfortable as a Leno correspondent. How’s that gig? I love it. It’s a lot of fun doing the panel discussions trashing the topics of the day. It reminds me of when I did Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd. But it bothers me how harsh the critics are of Leno.
