Nestlé Waters North America’s plastic water bottles are 100% recyclable. But, there is limited availability of places for people to recycle them. In the U.S. 48% of households do not have curbside recycling and recycling bins are not commonplace on sidewalks, at gas stations or in many public places around most towns. While used water bottles make up only one-third of one percent of municipal solid waste in the U.S., we believe current recycling rates are unacceptable and more needs to be done. That’s why we are exploring new environmentally minded packaging technologies, including lower carbon plastic and renewable packaging materials. These innovations however, take time to develop. In the meantime, so much environmental good can come from more comprehensive recycling for all packaging materials.
