Why aren “fasting” students blood sugars lower than “non-fasting” students before drinking soda?

My husband is a diabetic and coincidentally, he has to have a fasting blood sugar tomorrow. A pancreas secretes insulin when one eats or drinks anything containing sugar. This insulin turns the glucose and uses it as energy through metabolism. If you have diabetes, your pancreas does not secrete enough insulin to metabolize the sugar and causes a lot of problem. If a non fasting person blood sugar is lower before drinking soda, it’s usually because their pancreas is in perfect working condition. There is no sugar in their blood, which will make their blood sugar levels lower because insulin is not needed if no sugar is injested. In a fasting person who is a diabetic, even though they have not eaten or drank, the pancreas still is not working well and the test will tell the Dr. how well he is or is not doing and if he needs insulin or an oral medication to metalbolize any sugar they take in. Usually a non-fasting person has a random test just to see if they are secreting insulin.
