Why arent Disruptive Technologies new technologies?
New technologies generally result in evolutionary rather than revolutionary changes. A major reason for this is that introduction of a new technology demands the attention of other manufacturers. If the new technology creates a significant competitive advantage, it will generally be adopted throughout the market within a short time. In addition, research into new technologies and adoption of new technologies are generally confined to the current Paradigm. Disruptive Technologies are a different story, however. Having been tried and abandoned, other manufactures consider them to be irrelevant. Niche market application does not attract a significant amount of attention outside of the niche.
