Amazon can only sell songs/albums as MP3 if they have permission to and if the songs are available as MP3. Not all record-labels have given Amazon permission to sell songs as MP3. Especially because Amazon is not restricting the songs using DRM, i.e. the MP3s can be distributed easily by the buyer (no copy-protection) there are quite some labels who say, that they don’t allow this to happen. So songs that might be available at other stores like iTunes or musicload.de arent’t available at Amazon. A delay of the publishing of MP3 after the release of the CD doesn’t make sense or even lead to negative effects on the number of sales of MP3-files. Not very much people will buy both and if the MP3s will released later, many people will buy the CD and rip the MP3s for themselves.
