Why are young people at a greater safety risk if they use a mobile phone while driving?
Young drivers experience difficulty in balancing the many demands on their driving from the perceptual, mental and physical aspects of the driving task. Research has found new drivers using a mobile phone spend less time looking at the road ahead. They are also more likely to wander over the road (across traffic lanes). They also take longer to notice driving hazards.
