Why are you using the Brightcove player instead of YouTube, Windows Media (WMV) or QuickTime?

We used to use a custom video player of our own design but it was too taxing on our server and didn’t allow external embedding so after much research we chose to switch to Brightcove. With the new player you can watch all the videos on our front page, embed our videos on your own website if you want and email your favouriets to family and friends. Brightcove uses the Flash video (FLV) format because it is the “safest” video platform meaning that the most people can view the videos without having to download extra software. Flash video is used by all the major video sharing sites (YouTube, MetaCafe, Revver and DailyMotion to name a few) and only requires the Flash Plug-in to play. Windows Media (WMV) files only play on PCs running Microsoft Windows and many people don’t have QuickTime installed. At the same time Flash video has a very low quality-to-size ratio meaning the videos look great without the files being too big.
