Why Are You Afraid of Taking That First Step to Faith?
For some people, taking the first step to faith conjures up a whole new way of life that may not be to their liking. They think they are going to have to give up their friends and start mixing with some strange eccentrics instead. The truth of the matter is that we are not expected to suddenly move in with a new crowd. The Apostle Paul said that wherever you are when the spirit takes you, you should stay in that same place. You are not expected to change your social conditions. In fact, you could probably be of more use to Jesus as a testimony to your nearest and dearest, the people who more than any other will witness the new you and admire it. The way to look at it is this: if you suddenly went out and bought a new TV, much better than your old one, you wouldn’t have to move into a new neighbourhood to watch it. It’s the same with Jesus.
