Why are work-family issues so important now?
• Usually, people think “child-care” when they hear “work-family”. That is a big issue within the work-family paradigm – but Work-Family is a much more complex and multi-faceted issue. If I leave you with anything today I want you to realize Work-Family is not just child care and it is not just a women’s issue. • Work-family refers to any connection between the work and personal domains of an individual. Can involve structural (such as time commitment/ geographical location/ family size and structure) or psychological aspects (job/life satisfaction, stress, general health and well-being). Also gets into legislation and organizational policies, procedures, and programs.
