older cars & most gasoline powered equipment such as farm tractors, lawn mowers, chain saws, electrical generators, cement mixers, leaf blowers etc. will run satisfactorily on E10 but wont run on E85 without expensive modification. very few people can afford to replace all their gas powered equipment all at once & there would be a huge backlash if the government suddenly made all this equipment obsolete. E85 is available for new vehicles & equipment that will run on it. another consideration is that cars sold in the U.S. must achieve a specified minimum miles per gallon standard & a car that gets 30 mpg on pure gasoline will usually only get 22 to 24 mpg on E85 due to the lower energy content of gasoline diluted with ethanol.
