Why are valence electrons and electron configuration important for the periodic table?
valence electrons are important because they participate in chemical reactions and the elements classified into different groups on the basis of number of valence electrons. electronic configuration depends on valence electrons. there are 4blocks named s-block,p-block,d-block and f-block. if the degenerating electron jumps into the s-orbital then the element belongs to s-block and so on……. there are families of elements like halogens, boron family, nitrogen family, carbon family, oxygen family e.t.c.
