Why are things masculine or feminine?
From the forum: “Sometimes people ask me why some things and ideas in Spanish are masculine, and some feminine. When I tell them la mesa is feminine, it doesn’t make sense to them. When I tell them la tristeza is feminine, it makes even less sense to them. “So I tell them, look, a long, long time ago, everything was either masculine or feminine. In many modern languages things are masculine and feminine. In English ships are feminine. C’mon! “But many people just keep saying, ‘It doesn’t make any sense.’ “Does anyone has a more convincing explanation about genders, that an English speaking person would be willing to buy more easily?” Join the discussion… Comments (0)See All Posts
