Why are there two different dates on the Practical Magic posters (or other promotional material)?

The original release date for the United States was supposed to be October 9, 1998, but for some reason unknown to me, it was changed to October 16, 1998 (the actual release date). Some of the original promotional material (posters, postcards, etc) have this original date, but later reprints reflect the actual release date.
