Why are there traffic lights on some entry ramps to the M80 Ring Road?
Traffic lights on ramps help to control the flow of traffic entering the freeway. The lights turn on when the freeway is really busy, generally during peak times. Controlling the amount of cars entering the freeway means drivers already on the freeway don’t have to brake or change lanes as much to let people in. This makes it safer and easier to get on the freeway as it limits number of cars trying to merge at one time. As the M80 is being upgraded in stages, the traffic lights will be gradually turned on as works on each ramp is complete.
