Why are there time gaps in (or images missing from) the range of images Ive selected to view on the Archive page?

Two possible reasons. One is that we have automated software which deletes all black or very dark images from the archives after a month (this is done to save on storage space, as the archives take up quite a bit of space on our servers). The other is that even with our best efforts, sometimes (very rarely) technology fails us and results in either missing, damaged, or blank images (which in turn are deleted by the automated software). Of the non-black/overly dark images we have been archiving since December 1, 2000, we have over 99.9% accessible and available in the archives.
