MoldTech works with the bentonite clay to improve overall green sand performance characteristics. Since there are two primary bentonite clays used in foundry green sand systems (calcium and sodium), there are two MoldTech formulations (SM-42, SM-88) to best match the clay. The third MoldTech formulation (SM-50) is used in all bentonite systems as necessary to improve the ion exchange characteristics of the green sand system.
