Why are there so many types of power supplies for led lighting?
LED lighting manufacturers use a variety of powering strategies to power their lighting. Many of these strategies involve different voltages, current control, and sophisticated switching (pulse width modulation) – most of these strategies are geared to control heating while getting the most illumination from the leds. Additionally, many types of led lighting use on-board circuitry to control voltage and current, and to protect the circuit from overheating. These high temperature designs usually require substantial heat sinking along with specialized power supplies – adding to the bulk and size of the lighting assembly. While OIC respects the technology behind many of these heat controlling strategies, we simply do not need any of these because we do not push our leds into these situations (we implement a multi led low power approach to design).
