Why are there so few of the recently challenged books in the TBABS catalog?
Nearly all of the books in the TBABS collection are selected on a national level by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). This year, we are able to provide access to 8 of the 34 recently challenged titles. Because the challenges were regional, they may not have received the same reactions on a national level. However, as some books gain a wider reaction, the interest level for the title grows, and some books from previous lists do end up joining the NLS collection. Compare the lists from the past to the TBABS catalog–you may already be a reader of banned books! The list below includes the books that were challenged in Oregon over the past year that can be found in the TBABS catalog. Information regarding the location of each library in which the books were challenged is not included, but the type of library is noted.
