Why are there no weeds in Plant s Choice soils?
Certain compost ingredients or feedstocks such as yard trimmings, food by-products, paper mill waste and animal manures can contain plant and animal pathogens. However, specific processes and management techniques have been developed to effectively destroy these pathogens. These processes and techniques are based on a known time-temperature relationship. Simply, all living organisms can be killed when exposed to a specific temperature for a specific length of time. The greater the temperature, the shorter the length of time necessary. The time-temperature criteria for controlling potentially harmful pathogens in organic feedstocks were identified and verified back in the 1970s by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) when they were heavily involved in composting research. The composting process used by Plant s Choice is very effective for disinfection or pasteurization.
