Why are there no miracles today like in Jesus time?
(This question was submitted by an 12 year old parishioner of St. Kevin’s.) I have wonderful news for you — there are miracles today! In fact, you are present as a miracle occurs each Sunday! At the words of consecration spoken by the priest, God changes ordinary bread and wine into the true Body and Blood of Jesus. This is a great miracle, though a “hidden” one, since we can’t detect it with our senses. Not all miracles are hidden, though. If you travel to Lanciano, Italy, you can view the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano which occurred in the year 700 and continues today. If you travel to a basilica in Mexico City, you can see the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that appeared in 1531 on the tilma that belonged to Juan Diego. Closer to home, miracles of healing are said to have occurred at Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre near Quebec City, and at St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal.
