Why are there no disabled friendly cars in the country?
The National Human Rights Commission has ‘sought comments’ from has sought a reply from the Ministry of Heavy Industries within 3 weeks on a complaint filed by a person with a physical handicap as to why vehicles are not made keeping the needs of disabled people in mind. The Government on why there were no disabled-friendly cars on Indian roads. The Commission has asked the Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries to comment on a complaint that car manufacturing companies, even those in the public sector, have stopped making vehicles for the physically challenged. The complaint mentioned was filed by a Gurgaon resident who lost both his knees in an accident and is now confined to a wheel chair against Maruti Udyog Ltd.
