Why are there guest workers (imigrants) in New orleans in New Orleans building ships?
The crux of the question is ‘if the government was concerned over the discrimination shown towards the unemployed citizen, why don’t they do something to prevent it?’ Australia has started the same facility here, due to a lack of labour in several areas; skilled, retail, hospitality, fruit picking/packers etc. Our unemployment is quite low, and those that still exist on it (we pay ongoing sustainable welfare) are unlikely to pick up the slack, hence the need. It has come to light that some employers here are also abusing these migrants, not only are they paying a lot less, but they are also charging massive accommodation and living expenses. This is called ‘greed’, and companies here which are reported are investigated. The problem is, many migrant workers on temporary visas don’t know their rights.
