Why are there good and bad times to go fishing in a given day?
for me; bad times – during a thunderstorm. good times – anytime except during a thunderstorm. reason – I’m fat and I can’t stand the smell of bacon frying. You want to know when and where the fish are feeding. In general fish start feeding a few hours before sunset, continue overnight, and will stop or slow to a crawl an hour or two before the noon sun. The fish most often feed in the shallows, around cover, near stream or river outlets. They retreat to deep water during the heat of the day. These are only generalities. There are many other factors; type of fish (some fish don’t feed or feed very little when the sun goes down, these have extended daytime feeding hours), time of year (fish have increased or decreased periods around spawning periods, metabolism slows down in the winter so fish feed less. Also, fish on the spawning beds will defend their nests against any threat to their eggs. This often produces a strike.), phase of the moon (test show that during the full moonand up to
are more or less active at different times of day. Your best opportunity for fishing is when they’re naturally feeding, and putting something that resembles what they’re eating in front of them, in the way that critter will usually present itself. This can also be affected by water temperature, rainfall, food supply–and the more you fish for a particular type of fish, the more you’ll learn about what to offer them, when to offer it, and how to present it. I’m obviously NOT talking about “junk food” fishing, where you toss out something the fish love but isn’t an ordinary food for them!
