Why are there different solutions for network- and direct-connected printers?

0

The Embedded Web Server (EWS) is currently available in network-connected versions of newer HP LaserJet, color LaserJet, and business inkjet printers. Legacy printers do not have this technology. Two SureSupply solutions are necessary to use differing capabilities of different print devices. In network-connected printers, SureSupply alert functionality is controlled by the EWS. Some newer direct-connected printers require no additional drivers; many direct-connected and legacy printers, however, are given SureSupply functionality through an extension to their printer driver.
