Why are there different rebate amounts for the ENERGYSTAR clothes washers?
Although all ENERGYSTAR qualified clothes washers are efficient, using at least 45% less energy than non-qualified models, some models are more efficient than others. LIPA is rewarding customers who purchase the most efficient washers by offering the highest rebate amount on the most efficient models. The rebate amount is determined by the Modified Energy Factor (MEF) of each clothes washer. The MEF is an equation which divides the capacity of the clothes container by the total clothes washer energy consumption per cycle, hot water energy consumption and the energy required for removal of the remaining moisture in the wash load.
