-back to top In December 2005, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Bill called HR4437. This Bill focuses exclusively on border security, restricting and tightening future immigration into the U.S., improving security on our borders from land, air and sea and, harshly punishing illegal immigrants by requiring them to return to their home country. In May, 2006, the U.S. Senate passed a Bill called S.2611. This Bill also focuses on border security, but has several other important features. By contrast, the Senate Bill (S 2611) also prioritizes the need for increased border security and adds two additional pieces dealing with a Guest Worker Program and a pathway to legal status.
