Why are the underquilts made of wool?
Battened wool is a resilient, natural, weight supporting fiber with springy crimps that create substantial weight support. Almost four pounds of pure wool per square yard goes into each underquilt, which is easily 40% more than the amount used in the heaviest ‘luxury’ wool mattress pad you’ll find in stores or catalogs. Only wool has the dynamic ability to support and distribute body weight away from pressure points and tender points, which comforts joints and soothes aching muscles, better than any other material. Wool is also the most resistant of all natural fibers and can be stretched to 140% of their original length, and can even be stretched 20,000 times before they break.
