Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworths?

lots of reasons Woolworth’s is a retailer, there are lots of other companies which will fill the space vacated by Woolworth’s.. some would argue they already have. Woolworths’s jobs are scattered around the country as a whole rather than concentrated in a specific region Woolworth’s doesn’t support thousands more jobs in the same region. Woolworth’s union, despite bunging millions Labours way doesn’t have the same level of leverage as T&GW within the government there are many constituencies which would be at risk if Jaguar Land Rover went to the wall, whereas the Wollie employees are acttered throughout the UK, JLR is predominantly midlands based (admittedly there isn’t much chance of a change in MP’s around the Liverpool plant) Ford wanted to sell JLR (and have done for several years),TATA wanted to buy, there were no other buyers so TAT bought JLR I do find it offensive that TATA having boiught JLR and sittign on large cash stockpile deamnd the UK government bail ’em out. expect more
