Why are the street trees pruned so severely?
A. The great majority of the limes and planes in the borough are now pollarded on a 2 yearly cycle in line with the Tree Strategy. We have been working towards this standard over 4 – 5 years. A decision was made to gradually reduce the trees to the required size in stages. Once this is achieved a pollarding knuckle will be formed and no further cuts into the trunks will be made.
