as a resident of Sweden, i think i can help you. Yes, the flags of the Nordic countries: i.e Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and the Faroe islands all look similar. All these flags are modeled after the original Danish flag called the Dannebrog (which is also the oldest flag in the world). There is a legend that states that during a disastrous battle was saved by a flag falling from heaven. Before this flag ever touched the ground, the King and commander of the Danish army, who were losing the battle, grabbed hold of the flag and waved it. This encouraged the defeated troops and gave them hope subsequently leading them to victory. There are altogether six different theories regarding the origin of the flag and one of these states that the flag was a banner from the pope, a gift sent to the Danes during the crusades.
