Why are the prices of parts different for over the counter parts and for parts in the service department?
Having over the counter parts and a service department that sells parts can be a source of conflict. It can be difficult to understand why there is a difference in price, because afterall a part is a part. The problem is that the pricing structure for service departments has evolved to include a mark-up of parts prices that compensates for the high cost of labor. The market dictates our prices and in order to remain competitive and profitable we need to use the same pricing structure as other shops. The price of parts in the service department also includes re-installation of the parts if there is a problem.
