Why are the Maxine Inspector windows so large and awkward?
Sorry about that. The Inspector was built incrementally by the development team for its own use: it never had more than the minimum functionality needed for the moment, often less than we wished. Our team is fortunate to have pretty good display screens, so improving the sub-optimal GUI design was a lower priority than ongoing VM development. A Maxine team member is now dedicated full time to the Inspector, serving both the needs of the Sun development team and outside participants. The immediate focus will continue to be on functionality and internal architecture, but we’re also looking at a complete replacement of the Inspector’s GUI, possibly by porting it onto a standard development platform of some kind.
