Why are the lion and unicorn fabulous monsters?
If you ever look at the coat of arms for the British Royal Family you will see that the central shield is held on either side (called supporters) by a lion and a unicorn. The lion is for England and the unicorn (which is a symbol of purity) is for Scotland. I suspect your picture comes from Alice Through the Looking Glass, an episode which quotes the old nursery rhyme The Lion and the Unicorn were fighting for the Crown The Lion beat the Unicorn all around the town Some gave them white bread And some gave them brown And some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town.
