Why are the Green Bay Packers called the Green Bay Packers?

Green Bay is a city in Wisconsin. I’m positive the Green Bay part is because they’re based out of Green Bay Wisconsin. According to the Packers.com website they are named for the company run by the original investers. Which was indeed a packing company. I’m assuming that’s either packaging or meat packing, but can’t find reference to that. Green Bay is in Northern Wisconsin.
