Why are the Exclusive Brethren not allowed to go on the internet, watch TV or read newspapers?
The Plymouth/Exclusive Brethren believe that holiness is achieved by separation from the world. Christians have tried this in many ways over the two millenniums- monasticism was one way- but it is not scriptural to live like that.Jesus says to His Father in John 17: 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. ” Hard though it is to maintain a lifestyle that is glorifying to God, in a world that is set against His will, we have to remain in it, and be transformed by the Spirit, WHILE we present Christ to the world. Paul writes in Romans 12:2 “2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” I have had something to do with the Exclusive Brethren over my lifetime and have found, although they are good people in many ways, they can be very isolationist and judgemental, because they belie
